Appendix A · p. A-2

When changing between operating purposes, the operator must determine that the UAS is in a condition for safe operation and appropriate for the operational purpose intended. A record entry will be made in the maintenance records to document the operational purpose change and that the UAS is in a condition for safe operation.

Order notes

This limitation applies only when two or more operational purposes are listed on the FAA Form 8130-7.

🧭 Guidance & sample wording

When this applies

Only when two or more operational purposes are listed on the Form 8130-7 (per the order note). Each time you switch between those purposes, make the determination and the record entry below.

What you must determine

That the UAS is in a condition for safe operation AND is configured appropriately for the purpose you're switching to — e.g., the right payload/sensors installed or removed and the correct software load for that purpose.

Sample maintenance-record entry (template)

[Date] — UAS TIS [____]. Operating purpose changed from [purpose A] to [purpose B]. Verified the UAS is configured appropriately for [purpose B] and is in a condition for safe operation. — [Name], [title / certificate].
