FAA Order 8130.34D — OPA / OPA-UAS Operating Limitation B-8

Appendix B · p. B-2

When converting the aircraft between OPA and UAS configurations, the person making the conversion must make a maintenance record entry. After each conversion, the aircraft must be inspected to determine it is in a condition for safe operation. This condition for safe operation determination must also be documented in the aircraft maintenance records.

Order notes

This limitation only applies to OPA/UAS.

🧭 Guidance & sample wording

What each conversion requires

Every time you convert between OPA and UAS configurations, the person doing it makes a maintenance record entry, then inspects the aircraft and documents the condition-for-safe-operation determination in the maintenance records.

Sample record entry (template)

[Date] — Aircraft converted from [OPA / UAS] to [UAS / OPA] configuration per [procedure / document]. Post-conversion inspection performed; determined the aircraft is in a condition for safe operation. — [Name], [title / certificate].
Preparation support, not an FAA determination. The determination and record entry are made by the operator or authorized person; the FAA prescribes the final limitations on the FAA Form 8130-7.
